Geocache Description:

Our state has historically been divided into the Three Grand Divisions of Tennessee". The boundary between East Tennessee and Middle Tennessee is the Cumberland Plateau while the Tennessee River demarcates the boundary between Middle and West Tennessee. It only seemed fitting that each division of the state should have its own version of the major challenges. So, we present the Tennessee DeLorme Challenge, Middle Tennessee Edition.

Cache is at the posted coords, but you must read the cache page for requirements to log this cache.

Welcome to the Middle Tennessee version of "The Tennessee DeLorme Challenge".

Believe me, I know this cache is not for everyone, the beautiful state of Tennessee is long and lean and that means there will be a lot of stops at your favorite gas stations along the way to the final cache. But with most things worthwhile, a little effort, time, sweat and blood is usually required!!

History

The first DeLorme Challenge cache was listed for the state of California back in 2004 by geocacher Haicoole. We have combined a few ideas from the various DeLorme Challenge caches across the country to come up with what you see here, The Tennessee DeLorme Challenge- Middle Tennessee Edition.

The DeLorme Atlas is published for all 50 states and can be found at many locations, including truck stops and online directly from DeLorme but you must use the 9th Edition which has 73 grids (6-79) in Tennessee to complete your find.

The goal of the Challenge is to find a cache on each page of the Tennessee State DeLorme Atlas. You can find any cache located on the DeLorme page as long as the cache is within the longitude and latitude grids that are in the DeLorme map page. There are several online tools to help you determine your eligibility to log this cache.

Please note, you may not log this challenge until you have found the final container and signed the log.

Guidelines

The following guidelines will apply to The Tennessee DeLorme Challenge:
  • Generally accepted rules, guidelines, and conditions for logging a cache find apply. These must be bona fide caches listed on Geocaching.com that you have personally (physically) found and logged.
  • There is no date restriction on this listing, caches found prior to the creation of the Tennessee DeLorme challenge count as long as all other Challenge requirements are met.
  • All Geocaching.com caches and cache types count in the Tennessee DeLorme Challenge.
  • The listed coordinates on each cache page are the determining factor for where the cache is located, even if the final location falls on another page.
  • If a Tennessee DeLorme Atlas page includes space not located in Tennessee, only caches in the Tennessee portion will count.
  • On pages consisting of multiple blocks a cache must be found for each block, not just one for the page.
  • A total of 73 cache finds will be required to complete the Tennessee Challenge. One find for each of the pages of the atlas 6-79. Page 45 has a small inset, but only one find is required for page 45 and it can be from either the main portion of the page or the inset. Remember you must use the 9th Edition of the DeLorme Atlas.
  • While you may have other cachers with you when you find the final cache, only those who have fulfilled ALL criteria for this cache will be allowed to log it as a find. Find logs by other cachers will be deleted.

In order to log this cache, you may verify your qualifications by using the Challenge Checker at the bottom of the page. The real challenge here is in qualifying to be able to log the cache, we prefer to not make verifying this a challenge in itself. Naturally, if it is discovered that you do not qualify to log the cache your log will be deleted. So enjoy the challenge of qualifying to log the Tennessee DeLorme Challenge- Middle Tennessee Edition, it is not easy, but your geocaching life will be richer for it.
