Another cache on Valdes Island in Wakes Cove Park
The House on Valdes
We've been coming here for a few years. It's a great place if you have a boat and want to get away from everyone for a few hours. It is after all, a provincial marine park. But there is something different about the park. There is a house.
What's strange about this house is that no one lives here anymore. At least no one you can see. What you notice are the remnants of a sudden departure, playing cards on the table and floor, a bottle of medicine, pictures on the walls, and personal effects. What happened here?
The parks department has it locked, presumably to keep people out, but maybe, they need to keep something in.
As you make your way to the cache, you will pass by numerous outbuildings that were once home to small farm animals - chicken, sheep, perhaps cows. Eventually, you will see the house and walk by it. You will find the cache and then you will feel compelled to visit the house. Stare at the windows, take a picture, what will you see?
What is that in the window?

The journey to the cache can be made easily enough. Travel by sturdy craft to Wakes Cove Provincial Park and then follow the trails toward the cache. You will not need to leave the trails. The house is part of the park but please respect the no trespassing signs posted by private owners.
While you are here, you may want to take a lunch & watch the boats pass by through Gabriola Passage. A waypoint is included below for a good beach view. Enjoy.
