Il fontanile Gambarone è parte del patrimonio naturale e storico della frazione di San Bovio di Peschiera Borromeo: esisteva già nel 1011. A dargli il nome, i gamberi di fiume di cui erano ricchissime le sue acque. Dopo una serie di vicessitudini e maltrattamenti in anni recenti di nuova espansione edilizia (ahimé) a San Bovio (inclusa la costruzione del centro direzionale di un noto colosso informatico, ora passato a una famosa azienda di logistica), ultimamente è ricominciato il recupero dell'area, grazie soprattutto alla vigilanza e alla pressione dei cittadini della frazione e di diverse associazioni ambientaliste, che si erano accorte che i drastici interventi che erano in corso avrebbero compromesso irrimediabilmente le dinamiche della fauna e della flora. Il fondo dello specchio d'acqua è stato ripulito e sono stati piantumati alberi e arbusti nel boschetto adiacente (Il Bosco Alto). Per quanto la frazione rappresenti un centro residenziale in espansione, vanta una lunga storia di tradizioni della campagna milanese, come testimoniato dalla chiesetta dedicata a San Bovio risalente alla seconda metà del sedicesimo secolo e voluta dal cardinale Carlo Borromeo. The Gambarone spring and lake is part of the natural and historical heritage of the village of San Bovio in Peschiera Borromeo: it already existed in 1011. The name come from the river shrimps, once vey abundant in its waters. After a series of vicissitudes and ill-treatment, in recent years of new building expansion (alas) in San Bovio (including the construction of the business center of a well-known computer giant, that has recent left the are for a famous international delivery service), it has lately begun the recovery of the area, thanks to the vigilance and pressure of the citizens of the village and several environmental groups, who had noticed that the drastic actions going on would irreparably compromise the dynamics of fauna and flora. The bottom of the body of water has been cleaned up, and trees and shrubs were planted in the adjacent grove (Bosco Alto). Although the village is an expanding residential centre, it has a long history of traditions of the Milanese countryside, as witnessed by the church dedicated to San Bovio from the second half of the sixteenth century and commissioned by Cardinal Carlo Borromeo.
