It has been said that all good things must come to and end. The Civil War Trail will come to that end on October 31, 2014. Thanks to all that have visited the many wonderful caches.

All stages are close and a short easy walk. Enjoy the views and the history. Start at stage 1 and stay in order and you will be closer to the final and not have to backtrack.

Final container is at N38 20.AB8 W081 36.CD3

To solve for A, visit stage 1, which is at the posted coordinates, and you will see a statue of a Civil War General born in what is now West Virginia. A equals the first number of the day that he died. (May A0, 1863)

To solve for B, visit stage 2 and you will see a statue of a famous President. B equals the third number of the year on the front of the statue (18B3)

To solve for C, visit stage 3 and you will see a statue. C equals the second number of the day (November 1C, 1863) for the speech on the back of the statue.

To solve for D, visit stage 4 and you will see a Civil War sign. D equals the last number of the year (188D) that a statewide referendum eventually settled that Charleston would be West Virginia's capital, not Wheeling.

The American Civil War raged for four years (1861-1865), pitting brother against brother at the cost of more than 600,000 lives. Out of the war, however, rose a new state, the only one created as a direct result of the war – West Virginia.

We hope you enjoy learning about the significant role West Virginia played in this monumental war. It has been a privilege to create this challenge and share some great history with you!

Special thanks go to Clive and Juliana for helping place this cache!
