Geocache Description:

The cache is in the area surronding a Grotto. The cache is only a step or two off the worn path, and is easy to find.

Congratulations to BraillerCD and avgraphics for the co-FTF!

The cache is a minimal walk from the parking lot used for the nearby baseball fields. If you enter from the parking lot, you could end up finding the cache without seeing the Grotto, so make sure you walk the short distance south to the Green Pond. The cache is a small tuperware container with a log, pencil, and some small items. Only small items and Travelbugs will fit in this cache. Remember to only take something if you have something to leave.

"Few township residents seem to know about the grotto. Yet, it’s been on the grounds of the Watchung Hills Elk’s Lodge behind the Municipal Complex for nearly 100 years. It sits above an abandoned copper mine shaft that goes vertically underground for nearly 165 feet, and was constructed with the help of European craftsmen by Nathan Hofheimer, one of the founders of General Motors who made his fortune in the automotive light bulb industry." -Frank Coelho
