This cache has been archived.

Wis Kid: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

TeamNeal's first set of hides. Near the historic and unique Astico County Park Bridge that was constructed from 2 separate truss bridges originally from 2 different spots in Dodge County.

Features a Garmin chirp, to aid in the discovery.

After finding over a 100 geocaches, this is one of TeamNeal's first hides! Located in one of our favorite places to camp at. Astico County Park features camping, canoeing/kayaking, hiking, picnicing and playing on an awesome little pennisula. Astico County Park also features one of TeamNeal's very first geocaches from 7 years ago. We came back and even showed our kids (who weren't born yet) the original log entries.

Astico County Park Bridge is unique in the fact that it consists of two separate century old bridges. The southern through truss bridge was originally built around 1907 on nearby Ninabuck Road. The bridge was replaced in 1996 and stored nearby. The northern pony truss bridge was built prior to 1891, but moved to Scofield Road near Lebanon, WI. The bridge was rebuilt in 1910 for highway use then removed in 1996. The Scofield Bridge is an increasingly rare Warren Double-Intersection pony truss bridge type from its era in Wisconsin.

In 1998, Dodge County purchased land east of the Crawfish River from Astico County Park for future primitave campsites. The two bridges together would connect the two areas. The bridges were finally put back to use after nearly a decade of sitting nearby. With the help of some federal and local funding, contruction was completed in 2006 joining the two bridges over the Crawfish River. Joining the two is a concreate pier that is great for fishing.
