Geocache Description:

Let's get Hibou Conservation Area cleaned up before Winter.
The Friends of Hibou and the Mid-Western Ontario Geocachers
are joining forces to tidy up this beautiful conservation area.

It is a quick C.I.T.O. event Saturday October 5th, 10:00 till 11:30.

Hibou Conservation Area is a scenic, 108 hectare day-use facility over looking the beautiful waters of Georgian Bay. It is located on the East Bayshore, about 6 km north of downtown Owen Sound. The name Hibou is derived from a freighter of that name which sank mysteriously off Paynter's Bay in 1936. Seven crew and passengers were killed. The survivors of this, the most striking shipping tragedy ever to occur near Owen Sound, managed to struggle ashore at what is now called Hibou Conservation Area.

There is a beach and picnic area along with over 2.5 km of trails across the road from the beach. Throughout the trails are interpretive signs with information on tree and shrub species, beaver activities, wildflowers, beach ridges, and more. Many stretches of the trail incorporate boardwalk to allow hikers to navigate low-lying wet areas. The trails are open to the public year-round.
Let's show our support for a great spot on the shore of Georgian Bay.

C . I . T . O .

I will be at the picnic shelter (GZ) during the event, for those who come late, or must leave early. We will be providing bags, gloves and a trail map for everyone, and if you happen to find trash that is too big to carry out, please waymark the Coords. We will send in a 4-wheeler or truck or crane later. When the clean-up is complete, please leave your bags at the roadside for pickup and disposal. Be sure to stop back by the shelter and tell us what you found.
Parking will be FREE, so you can drive in and out as you please.

After the C.I.T.O.
We will give out some door prizes and award the FTF rights.
We will then distribute a list of 8 nearby hikeable NEW geocaches, and give you 1-1/2 hrs to enjoy the Hibou trails and maybe an FTF.

You are then welcome to return for the "Hibou Picnic" event (GC4HFPT) at 1:00pm
with more NEW caches, and FREE food.

Attendance at the picnic is not required, but be aware these NEW caches will not be published on GC until after both events are complete. Returning for the picnic fun will give you both of the NEW cache listings for a total of 15 new smilies. Besides, everyone enjoys free food, and we will be provided BBQ'd hamburgers, hotdogs, and salad choices.

This CITO event has been coordinated in partnership with Inn On The Bay and;

FTF rights went to ScrapHappyMom for finding the most unusual piece of "trash". She and The Happy Bee brought back a snowmobile windshield.

Special Congratulations go to JRholmes77 in choosing to celebrate their 3,900th milestone with this event. Also, a big thank you to 4YOUNGCachers for all of your help, and congratulations in making this event your 250th milestone. This is also my 1,300th milestone and it was a fantastic way to party with my Geocaching friends.

Happy Hunting
