STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS

While not what you would call a Trekkie, I have been a big Star Trek fan since I was a little boy. I have watched the series and franchise grow into one huge monstrosity over the last 30 years and with the current direction the films are taking, I think it will last a lot longer. This is a series dedicated to the lovable space pioneers and the movies for which they starred. A lot of these caches are on a fairly busy road. I tried to place them where parking was good. Please watch children along this stretch and use good judgement. I hope you enjoy my latest entries.

Star Trek Into Darkness is a 2013 American science fiction action film. It is the twelfth installment in the Star Trek film franchise and the sequel to 2009's Star Trek. It was directed by J. J. Abrams from a screenplay written by Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Damon Lindelof, based on the series of the same name created by Gene Roddenberry. Lindelof, Orci, Kurtzman and Abrams also serve as producers, along with Bryan Burk. Chris Pine reprises his role as Captain James T. Kirk, with Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, Leonard Nimoy, John Cho, and Bruce Greenwood reprising their roles from the previous film. Benedict Cumberbatch, Peter Weller and Alice Eve round out the film's principal cast.

The plot of Into Darkness takes place one year after the previous installment, with Kirk and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise being sent to the Klingon homeworld seeking a former Starfleet member turned terrorist, John Harrison. After the release of Star Trek, Abrams, Burk, Lindelof, Kurtzman and Orci signed up to produce the film. Filming began in January 2012. The film was shot entirely in California. The film's visual effects were handled by Industrial Light & Magic.

The film was converted to 3D in post-production. Star Trek Into Darkness premiered at Event Cinemas in Sydney on April 23, 2013, and was released on May 9, 2013, in Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom and parts of Europe and Peru, with other countries following. The film was released on May 16, 2013, in the United States and Canada, opening at IMAX cinemas one day earlier. The film has become a commercial success and received positive reviews, grossing more than $450 million worldwide. It stands as the highest-grossing film of the Star Trek franchise.
