Ever since I was a kid, In enjoyed playing with and watching cars and trucks. As a young kid, I would drive my wooden car or a truck all over my front yard as far and fast as I could go for a kid.
Later, when my parents would take trips to visit family in Lake Charles, LA, and as we passed big trucks I would stick my arm out the side window (no A/C at that time) and pump my fist up and down hoping the driver would blow his air horns. Young kids today still do that hoping to hear the air horn. Great enjoyment when the actually blew the air horns.
In my teenage, I worked at a service station pumping gas, wiping windshields, fixing flats, washing cars and trucks. One customer would bring his light weight 18 wheel truck in for service and a wash job. I would sneak a test drive driving around the neighborhood, no more than two or three blocks.
When I was a young man, I started going to drag races, stock car races at Arrowhead Speedway and Playland Speedway on South Main Street. Several time times I would get the chance to ride with the race car owners to go to different race tracks around Texas.
Working at a refinery equipment company, I got to see over sized equipment moved on low boys tractor/trailer trucks. In fact, I stayed up till 4AM watching a heavy hauler move the OLD 97 railroad engine and coal car from Hermann Park Zoo area to downtown across the street from Minute Maid Stadium.
I still marvel at how much money truckers spend to fix up there trucks adding lights, chrome, sleeping quarters to make them look beautiful.
I still have that interest in big rigs and 18 wheelers.
