Geocache Description:

This geocache was created by a Boy Scout in Troop 56, W. Bloomfield NY, working toward his Geocaching Merit Badge. The cache is located on the grounds of The Marian and Max Farash Center for Observational Astronomy in Ionia, NY and was hidden with permission of the Astronomy Section of the Rochester Academy of Science.

SINCE ORIGINALLY HIDDEN, IT SEEMS THE OBSERVATORY IS NO LONGER MAINTAINING THE TRAIL THE CACHE IS LOCATED OFF OF. UNTIL WE CAN EITHER RELOCATE IT ELSEWHERE ON THE GROUNDS OR GET THE TRAIL CUT BACK, WE SUGGEST HOLDING OFF ON GOING ON A HUNT FOR THIS AS THE AREA HAS BECOME VERY OVERGROWN. THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE!

The cache has a “Space” theme and has been seeded with appropriate trade items. Please try to keep the theme going! Note the request on the logbook to return to this site to record your find (or DNF) and your favorite space movie quote!

The Observatory grounds are open to the public, but the gates are locked except during Open House, special events, and monthly meetings. If you don’t mind a short walk up the driveway, you can search for the cache any time dawn to dusk. Nighttime hunts are not allowed as to prevent flashlights from disturbing any sky observing and photography. Please be aware that hunters pass through the grounds during hunting season. Search at your own risk during October-December and May hunting seasons; wearing Blaze Orange is recommended. The Astronomy Club is not responsible for any injuries acquired during geocaching.
