Geocache Description:

The cache is a small container containing a few tradables, particularly pins.

A historic monument marks the location of the Irgon Mine that opened in 1956.  Lithium Oxide was what was to be mined but work was suspended on the development of the mine in 1957 when the company was awaiting a more favourable market for their product.  Lithium is used in numerous products and processes so one would wonder, that if there were a substantial deposit, some effort to redevelop it might not occur in the future.  A 241' shaft was dug but nothing was produced nor was any sort of townsite started.  You can see the remains of several buildings that were built at the site and the shaft has been sealed with a cement slab.

Cincan, Follower, Grandma and Putka (who live in the area) were on their way to enjoy some of the great fishing in the area and thought this would be an interesting place for you to stop and enjoy a little of Manitoba's history.  There is a little area very nearby in which to park off the road.  Please try and replace just as you find it. Congratulations to Fuellbrats on being the FTF. Not being from the area and having put this together rather quickly, we didn't have anything along to add but you do have the bragging rights of being the FTF.
