This Nutrias Cemetery is just west of U.S. 84, whereas the settlement of Nutrias is two miles east, named for being on the Rio Nutrias, or Beaver Creek. When the Spanish settlers saw beaver here, they called them nutria, the same as the otter.
There is no record of a post office here with the mail being delivered out of Tierra Amarilla, nine miles to the north.
This cemetery is a final resting place for settlers, homesteaders, farmers and ranchers who contributed to the Nutrias community. Please respect the area.
Your support is solicited as a volunteer cacher to place a "Spirit" cache at or near a cemetery of your choosing.
