Geocache Description:

Levittown Legacy #49: Providence House

This series of caches is dedicated to the history of Willingboro, and especially, the legacy of the Levittown years.

In the 1970s, the Willingboro Township Council saw a need for a shelter to house the victims of domestic abuse.  The council authorized the purchase of a farm and farmhouse and arranged for Catholic Charities of Burlington County to run a fully-staffed shelter.  "It was supported in large measure by a state Division of Youth and Family Services grant, supplemented by township contributions."  Providence House opened in April 1979 and is now one of the oldest shelters in the state.  It offers emergency shelter, a 24-hour hotline, counseling services, children's programs, and a parenting support group--all at no cost.**  The location of Providence House is a secret.  I think the fact that the township council initiated the establishment of Providence House is a proud moment in Willingboro history. Please be careful of muggles and traffic and rehide cache as found.
