As I was planning ahead for retirement, one thought kept nagging at me: “What will I do for pleasure with my spare time?” Some time later I saw an article about geocaching, featuring Deermark and Daggy. The subject appealed to me as my spare time hobby. I invested in a Magellan GPSr and, on September 3, 2003, I found my first cache. It was placed by some pioneers in Indiana geocaching, 2Jos’ Waypoint. It has since been deemed as a threat to the environment by the DNR (because it was a cache) and is gone, but my love for geocaching remains.
I’m not celebrating anything I’ve done in geocaching. I have no great accomplishments in geocaching. Others have found many more than I have, harder ones than I have, and cached longer. I’m just celebrating 10 years of caching – a personal milestone. I’m celebrating the many scenic places I’ve seen, interesting and historic sites, and most of all, the many great people that I’ve met that call themselves geocachers. Celebrating alone is no fun. It’s much better to celebrate with others that share a common interest and an understanding of the joy of the hobby. For that reason I decided to create an event. Hopefully others will come and celebrate this personal milestone with me at El Compadre in Mitchell. Check out the menu at www.elcompadremexican.com. The celebration starts at 6:30 PM on September3, 2013.
Please log as soon as possible to give the restaurant an idea of how to prepare.
