Geocache Description:

CASCADE FALLS WALK

DESCRIPTION

The 'Cascade Falls Walk' is located in Swans Crossing in the Kerewong State Forest.

Swans Forest is a popular picnic and camping area reached by travelling along a 10-20 klm section of unsealed road. Caravans and Camper-vans are welcome, but no power is available.) There are a number of walking trails into regenerating native forest and hardwood plantations. Also popular is the Longworths Tramway Heritage Walk located a short drive away. The trail follows the original logging tramline (1913) used to haul timber to the Camden Haven River where it was punted to a mill in Laurieton.

The Swan family ran a dairy and beef property on the site for many years, including clearing the forest and establishing grasses for the stock. This continued until 1964 when the area became State forest. The area is now surrounded by regenerated native forest and hardwood plantations. Swimming is also popular in the nearby shallows of Upsalls Creek. Longworths Tramline Heritage Walk is located a short drive away, with other walking trails leading off from the site.

One of these trails being the Cascade Falls Walk. Be prepared for a lengthy hike up a not-very-well maintained track. The terrain rating is quite high for a reason.

The track gets quite narrow and there is quite a bit of up-hill, over logs, under vines, etc. (Not recommended for children and the elderly).

I took my kids up there for a look when we originally placed the cache, having never have been there before and not knowing what to expect, and they were far from impressed!

DIRECTIONS

Swans Crossing is about a 20 minute drive from Kew (halfway between Taree and Kempsey). Access is via Upsalls Creek Road.

THE CACHE

The cache is a small snap-lock container, located just off the track, but there is no need to go into the bush.

Good luck. Hope you enjoy the walk.

If you go on a bit further, you will eventually get to the falls. You've come this far, not much point in not getting to the falls.

The falls are located at: S31 36.531 / E152 35.410

(Cache placed by 'vaggfam' & 'Nudge74' while camping at Swans Crossing)

CONGRATULATIONS TO 'BROWNGANG' ON ANOTHER FTF ON ONE OF OUR CACHES. GREAT WORK!
