A series of caches following the course of the old Aberdeenshire canal, which ran between Aberdeen harbour and Port Elphinstone near Inverurie between 1805 and 1853.
Although the canal has almost completely disappeared (replaced by the railway for most of its route and built on or ploughed over for much of the rest) there are still remnants to be found.
Running north from Bucksburn, following the contour of the ground and roughly parallel to the river Don, the canal passed Stoneywood with its busy mills down by the river.
Seventeen lochs were constructed over the first few miles as the land climbed the 170 feet or so up from sea level, but from the last loch here at Stoneywood onwards to Port Elphinstone the route remained level.
Stoneywood Terrace now crosses the route of the canal, and a line of trees running away south through a new housing development mark the route. Number 57 Stoneywood Terrace stands right on top of the route, and at the entrance to a track at this location stands another of the canal's milestones, the 5 1/2 mile marker.
