Geocache Description:

#1audioman & I decided that we would honor our grandfather (James Pittman) by placing a cache at this site...Out grandfather was a commercial fisherman and fished these waters from his early teens until he retired in the late 60's...The name of the island is "Phillips Island" and the structures that remain are remanence of and old mehaden factory that was built in the mid 1800's and operated until the 1950's...

Do to the uneven terrain and overall risk factor this cache is for the more experienced and physically fit cacher...one who has access to a boat, kayak or canoe...bring boots, bug spray and a willingness to climb...The cache you will be looking for is a green metallic water bottle with a pen and a log book inside...Once you have found the cache take the time to walk around and admire this pece of forgotten history...Please take pictures, post them with your log and happy hunting...
