Geocache Description:

The cache is not located at this location however, you must go to this location to answer the needed questions to determine the final coodinates to the geocache.

Fishing Buddies - This cache is a dedication to my Dad and his brother Bud.  The coordinates provided will bring you real close to the spot where my Uncle Bud had his cabin for many years and now a memorial that pays tribute to their love for each other and fishing. The memorial is a bench that the family had the placed here by Door County Parks Department.  Our family had a similar place on Riley's point that still stands today but is no longer owned by the family. I can remember many summer days 45 years or so ago that I would take a 14 ft boat with a 6 HP outboard  and travel from Riley’s Point over to Little Sturgeon to visit my uncle. A great adventure for a 10 year old boy. My father and uncle would tell us stories of adventures back when they were just kids and coming to this area with their dad to fish.  Using duck skiffs to fish from and catching perch, bass and walleye. To this day, the tradition lives on although my father and uncle are no longer here to fish and tell their stories.  Each has passed to the greatest fishing hole of all and they are now fishing buddies with the best fisherman there is, Jesus.  However, on the day I placed this cache,  my father had been gone for just  2 years, and  my son and I took the time to wet a line and I told him stories of when my dad would take me fishing. Our family misses them both very much.

Today the area is no longer a haven for many small cottages for those coming from Green Bay, Milwaukee or the Chicago area. The Robert M. Carmody Park  now supports a much larger number of folks who use this area to access the shores of Lake Michigan in both the winter and summer  A real transformation from when Mary Claflin built her cabin here in the 1800’s.  While visiting the park I would like to suggest you take your time, bring a lunch, do a picnic and don’t forget to bring a fishing pole and fish from one of the docks available.  Be sure to bring life jackets for the little ones so to keep them safe.

This geocache was placed with permission granted by Erik Aleson, Director Door County Parks and Airport.
