[US] Since the 12th century, the Tower of "le Vieux Chateau de Saive" dominates our beautiful valley of « la Julienne ». It was the residence of the Lords of the village until the end of the 17th century.

Description

Depuis le 12^ème siècle, le donjon du vieux château domine notre belle vallée de la Julienne. Il fut la résidence des seigneurs du village, dont entre autres les de la Marck, jusqu’au départ de la famille Monsen à la fin du 17^ème siècle. Situé en haut d’un éperon rocheux qui surplombe la vallée, le château est construit en pierre du pays. Ce château est constitué d’une double enceinte. Les murs faisant 2 mètres d’épaisseur sont typiques des châteaux forts du moyen âge. Le vestige le plus imposant de ce château reste le donjon d’une vingtaine de mètre de hauteur. Il perdit son magnifique toit d’ardoises vers la fin du 19^ème siècle. Depuis 2008, l’ASBL Les Compagnons du Vieux Château veille à la conservation et la promotion de ce patrimoine historique et culturel.

Le vieux château est un terrain privé et n’est accessible que lors des visites prévues    .

Since the 12th century, the Tower of the Old Castle dominates our beautiful valley of « la Julienne ». It was the residence of the Lords of the village, among other the « de la Marck », until the departure of the Monsen family at the end of the 17th century. Located at the top of a rocky outcrop overlooking the Valley, the castle is built of stone. The Castle consists of a double enclosure. 2 metres thick walls are typical of the castles of the middle ages. The most imposing vestige of this castle remains the Dungeon of some 20 metres in height. He lost his beautiful slate roof towards the end of 19th century. Since 2008, the ASBL « Les Compagnons du Vieux Château » shall ensure the preservation and promotion of is historical and cultural heritage.

Beschrijving

Sinds de 12e eeuw domineert de toren van het Oude Kasteel onze prachtige vallei van « La Julienne ». Het was de residentie van de heren van het dorp, onder andere de « de la Marck » tot het vertrek van de familie Monsen aan het einde van de 17^e eeuw. Gelegen op de top van een rotsachtige rots met uitzicht op de vallei, is het kasteel gebouwd van steen. Het kasteel bestaat uit een dubbele ommuring. De 2 meter dikke muren zijn typisch van de kastelen van de Middeleeuwen. Het meest imposante overblijfsel van dit kasteel is de kerker van een meter hoogte 20.  Hij verloor  zijn prachtige leien dak naar het eind van de 19^e eeuw. Sinds 2008, ziet het VZW « Les Compagnons du Vieux Château »  op het behoud en de promotie om historisch en cultureel erfdeel toe.
