I'd often seen these steps and the tunnel underneath, but it wasn't until Shunter and I started doing a wee bit of research on the Law tunnel that a photo of here emerged and re-ignited an idea I'd had a few years ago when I placed the Miley caches. We had to think carefully about where we were going to place this cache, due to lots of prying eyes - and cameras, so once you've worked out the general location, have a think about where would be safe to hide the cache.
The railway line ran to the right of this first picture of the stairs. The wee tunnel to the left may have been an engine shed, or it may just have been somewhere for locking up bad boys instead of sending them up chimneys.
The blue arched shed doors in the second picture hide some of the arches of the bridge that carried the railway up the hill and through the site of the DRI.
If you go up the steps and look over towards the tenements you can see remnants of the bridge supports at basement level. The tenement has been built upon the line of the railway.
Looking south through the arched window.
More information about the Dundee - Newtyle railway can be found here.
So, Ye think ye ken Dundee............ on ye go.
Photos were taken within a 50m radius, and the cache is within 100m of where all of these photos were taken from. You should know the score with the geochecker by now. This time you've got 40m to play with. (It started off at 25m but it seems geochecker was saying no when it should have said yes). The cache is a regular sized box (by Scottish caching terms - not by Groundspeak terms), in the middle of the town, hence the small leeway. D and T are subjective. Probably a lot lower for the natives.
