Westview Park Promenade was first built in the 1990s following the construction of one of Gibraltar's largest land reclamation projects. This largely residential area, which was to be known as the Westside, housed over 98% of Gibraltar's population in 2001. Most of the promenade was destroyed by a powerful storm on 10 October 2008 which reached hurricane wind speeds (12 on the Beaufort scale), causing widespread damage across Gibraltar including the wrecking of the MV Fedra at Europa Point. The preomenade's sea defences were reinforced and the remodelled park reopened to the public in 2011.
The cache, a rather small 'small' is located just outside the park's boundary, but is a lot easier to retreive via the park itself.
The park's official opening hours are 8:00 to 20:00, though times may vary depending on the season.
