History
This site was originally Wood Grange Manor, once owned by Quaker, banker and philanthropist Samuel Gurney (brother of Prison Reformer Elizabeth Fry)
He donated the land to build a workhouse school and infirmary which eventually became Forest Gate Maternity Hospital. The hospital was in operation
until 1985 when Newham General Hospital was opened.
The land was retained by the London Borough of Newham and following successful petitions from the community it was developed as a local park.
