Geocache Description:

This cache is dedicated to my grandpa, George Wood, who knew the mountains south of Bozeman better than anyone. When Grandpa Wood was 18 (1948) he took over his father's farm in Bear Canyon and lived there until he passed away on June 19, 2013. Some of my first memories are of Grandpa taking me sledding in Bear Canyon/New World Gulch, so this little corner of the world is quite important to both of us. Thanks for sharing the memory of his giant life with me.

This is a small cache designed to be night friendly (the container has a reflector attached) because it is located at a place with epic, beautiful views, particularly at night. Cachers, tread lightly my friends, this cache is in the wild. My advice - include a dog, preferably a terrier, who, despite a smaller size, will scare away any bears, chunkawarrigan, or other living hazards. Also, bring plenty of water.

When placed the approach was a bushwacking climb from Shoefelt Gulch on the east, but I imagine the western approach from New World Gulch may be easier. This terrain is rough, but once you get to the cache it opens up.
