Geocache Description:

Karst is the swiss-cheese rock formation that can be found throughout central Texas.  From tiny holes to big underground caves, they are all part of the karst topography. Do NOT remove the stamp from the cache - it's what make this cache a Letterbox hybrid cache.

Please stay on the trails. Do NOT remove the stamp from the cache - it's what make this cache a Letterbox hybrid cache. Cache is located near the trails. Karst topography is a geological formation shaped by the dissolution of a layer or layers of soluble bedrock, usually carbonate rock such as limestone or dolomite. Most karstic regions are characterized by caves, collapsed features, and sinkholes, often with little or no surface expressions, and their presence may go unrecorded. Central Texas and the Greater Austin metropolitan area have been built on the karstic limestone (Lower Cretaceous of Glen Rose Formation and Edwards Aquifer) in the Balcones Fault Zone (BFZ), and their growth is expanding. This is a yellow plastic lunchbox that should be easy to find - good for trading items.

Note - these trails are part of the Balcones Canyonland Preserve and between March 1 and July 31 should only be accessed during that time if you have a permit to protect the Golden Cheeked Warbler mating grounds. Permits are available by taking a class that is well worth your time. More info here: (visit link)
