For competitive geocachers, the MOGA Cup IS the holy grail.
In 2013, Victory Lane and I (with the help of Joranda and his son, Cachin' Bandit) finally laid claim to it.
In all fairness, this year should have been the third non-consecutive year we brought in home to Iowa. IGO hosted MOGA last year (2012). So, we couldn't say three STRAIGHT years.
In 2010, I foiled by Point 56 (Memorialized by GC277Z6 in this park). That cache had been moved by an animal and found later by a cheating cacher. She was driving in a foot traffic only competition. In hindsight, when I came back to the finish without that punch, we probably had enough time to run back up (2 miles one way) and get it and still win. THAT was one of the toughest losses I have ever endured.
In 2011, we won the 30 to 50 age group. But because of not one BUT two navigation errors on the way to the finish that I made, we came in second overall by a couple minutes. And this was AFTER I forgot to do one punch and had to run back almost a mile (one way) to get it.
REDEMPTION!
