“Battle Scars” series
This series of caches is to highlight just a small portion of the Battle River, as well as to encourage more rural caching in our area. Despite being a relatively small river in Alberta, the Battle River supports a number of communities and industries in East Central AB and provides numerous recreational opportunities including fishing, boating and swimming (if you don’t mind the less-than-ideal quality of the water). There are a number of existing geocaches both upstream and downstream of these locations, only some of which we have found so far.
All hides within this series are set up to be findable in the winter, although some will undoubtedly be more winter friendly than others. Some stages are also more kid friendly than others; although as a family with young kids, we’ve tried to keep these as accessible as possible without losing some of the challenge. In order to determine the coordinates for the final cache in this series (Battle’s End), you will need to find the clues hidden in each of the 6 prior caches in the series. This is our first attempt at a multi-level puzzle cache, so we hope you enjoy the hunt!
Battle Scars #4 - "The Battle Lines are Drawn"
A nice quiet country crossing of the Battle River on Township Road 454 (locally known as the Haultain Hall Road). Located just north of the bridge is a public launch site for canoes. If you’re up for a short drive after finding the cache, head east about 2 miles on Twp Rd 454 to see the Haultain Community Hall.
It should go without saying, but please leave the clue found at Stage 1 for the next cacher as there is only one copy. Bring a pen and paper to copy the clue down so that you don't have to come back to Stage 1 to find the coordinates for the final again.
Original contents: golf ball, green army men, necklace, animal figurines, bouncy ball, mini-ninja, Mega Bloks space dude, plastic ball, and whoopee cushion, plus log book (includes clue for GC4KPA5).
