Geocache Description:

A cache, that will take you to the site of an old train station.

I grew up in Watlington and found it fascinating that there used to be a station nearby. Inspired by the nearby cache for Shirburn Castle I thought I would highlight the site of Watlington Station. The station opened on 15 August 1872 and was a traditional branch line station. It was the terminus of the Princess Risborough line. Not actualy in Watlington but in the nearby hamlet of Pyrton. You may be able to make out the chimney stack of the station house through the trees but please do not enter the site. It is strictly private and no doubt very dangerous. The station and line ran until 1 July 1957 when it was closed to passengers. Goods services continued to run for almost another 4 years but the line was closed completely on 2 January 1961.

Unfortunately even if there was any incentive to reinstate this line and station there is now the added problem of a very busy motorway being in the way! The M40 lies a few miles NE of here and cuts through the site of the old line.

You are looking for a nano cache, no room for a pen so please bring your own! Log is small, so if you log the time of your find, please do so on the website to save space. Good luck

Congratulations to will and dan who were FTF!
