Descrizione
In origine l'antica "Pons Sacci" era un castello cinto da mura: ebbe una rilevante importanza strategica perché era situata al confine fra la Repubblica pisana e quella fiorentina. Nel 1509 i fiorentini abbatterono le mura e le torri per impedire la riconquista del castello. Alla fine della seconda guerra mondiale il paese si trasformò con la nascita di tante piccole botteghe artigiane che cominciarono a costruire i mobili. Oggi Ponsacco è una moderna cittadina che vive grazie alla produzione e commercializzazione di mobili e arredamenti.
Originally, the ancient "Pons Sacci" was a walled castle: it had a strategic importance because it was situated on the border between the Republic of Florence and Pisa. In 1509 the Florentines broke down the walls and towers to prevent the re-conquest of the castle. At the end of the Second World War the country was transformed with the emergence of many small artisan workshops which began to build the furniture. Today Ponsacco is a modern town that lives thanks to the production and marketing of furniture and furnishings.
