Geocache Description:

The wonderful town of Trumbull you've always blown by while on I-45. The cache is a camo colored bison tube piggy backed on an object that fits the theme of this cache. BYOP

When the Houston and Texas Central Railroad built a switch here in 1872, the community was called "The Switch."  (Which means it didn't really have a name.)

The name changed to "Ghost Hill" when three Mexicans, thought to be section hands  (some versions say ranch hands), were killed by a train.  They were buried in a grove of trees near the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Smith on the west side of the railroad tracks.  The graves were marked by two steel rails.  Mr. Valley, the engineer, always hung a red lantern outside his engine when passing through..

On April 20, 1904, the community's name was changed to Trumbull, in honor of J. A. Trumbull, a railroad official.

The Cache is hung in remembrance of the 3 lives that were lost here long ago.

There are two places to park. All you need to do is travel down I-45 service rd near Risinger rd for the first parking spot or Trumbull road where the overpass starts for the second parking spot . There is usually not much traffic around here but they do farm the field here nearby so you might see tractors. Cars come and go into the small community of Trumbll. Please don't park on the road of the bridge or on the bridge. Haven't used this bison tube because I didn't like the way the log would get stuck inside.  So I put a paper clip on the log.  Hopefully that will help with retrieval.

I think it's possible the land the Mexican workers are buried (if they weren't moved) is due west from here on the west side of the tracks Which is on private property. There is a grove of trees and the land is in the trust of a Smith family.  (But there were lots of Smiths around here from the Hans Smith descendants near Rockett. ) So who knows? But come pay your respects. Wave your lamp and log it.
