Clark Mansion aka Holly Rood is one of the most historic homes in Clark County. It's construction was started 1813 by James Clark (12th Governor of Kentucky) and followed simple lines of federal style architecture from his native Virginia. Upon completion in 1814, the new house was named Holly Rood for the home of Mrs. Clark's father. He had named his home in Virginia after the country estate of Mary, Queen of Scots. Clark Mansion was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. Clark was Governor from August 31, 1836-August 27, 1839. He died in office. A mounment was placed at Clark's burial site in front of Clark Mansion. CONGRATULATIONS TO foolishpride13 FOR THE FTF!!!
