Geocache Description:

Depending on your approach, this geocache will most likely introduce you to Gull Pond, part of the Chebacco Woods trail system north of Gordon College in Wenham. The Related Web Page link above will allow you to download a trail map. From either parking waypoint, it's 1/3 mile as-the-crow-flies, but the much more direct route is from Gordon.

We wanted to celebrate childhood memories in the form of summer day camp fun and the old cars that brought us to them. When I was 8 years old or so, my brother and I enjoyed summer day camp here at Gordon College. My mother would drive us here in a Pontiac LeMans (visit link) and we would spend time candlepin bowling, playing dodgeball, doing arts & crafts, and swimming here at Gull Pond. On this side of Gull Pond, there was a submerged Volkswagen Bug (visit link) that we could see from our canoes.

If my father were creating this cache, he might've wanted it to be more about the Ford Mustang (visit link) . After WWII, the introduction of the Interstate Highway System and the suburbanization of America made automobiles more necessary and helped change the landscape and culture in the United States. Individuals began to see the automobile as an extension of themselves. In the 1960s, the Big Three in the USA dominated the automobile industry (visit link) . Probably extinct are the days when males were the primary decision-makers of what was purchased as the family car, over time several car manufacturing companies have come and gone.

Everyone's got a memory about their family car growing up, we welcome you to reminisce about them in your logs. Car-themed swag and trackables are encouraged, you are looking for a large plastic peanut butter jar.

ATTRIBUTES here are lit up assuming you approach from Gordon College in Wenham, which allows dogs, but they must be leashed. In Hamilton, they allow horses. From Manchester-by-the-Sea you'd pass their watershed, so no dogs nor horses. Trails are open half hour before sunrise to half hour after sunset, so no night caching. Gull Pond is "swim at your own risk." Fast-moving muggles will be on all sides, so please practice Stealth.

The First-To-Find prize is an American coin rarer than our usual leave, an “Indian Head” cent, 100+ years old (in a viewing box)! The obverse of this coin isn’t an Indian, but “Lady Liberty” wearing an Indian headdress. Back then Lady Liberty’s profile graced all of our pocket change. Geo-Knot was FTF and also added a cool story, thanks!
