Geocache Description:

Near path which is good in this part of the woods. A small container - like an old film pot. A child or short person may need a lift.

One of a series of 'Forest' caches within Sheet Hedges Wood. The cache is close to one of the well marked footpaths that go round this wood.

There is no car park directly next to the wood; you can park nearby at Groby Pool. The woods are best reached with a pleasant walk across fields from Newton Linford or Anstey. The woodland path and fields do get muddy and can get a bit overgrown although the rangers do look after the wood.
Sheet Hedges Wood was opened up to the public in 1998. The Northern part of the wood is ancient woodland which has an entry in the Domesday Book (1086). It is an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) because of its high ecological value so please take care in the woodland and stick to the marked nature trails; access is signifiantly restricted off-path anyway by the many brambles (blackberry bushes). Types of trees include native specifies such as Ash, Oak, Alder, Wild Cherry, Birch Field Maple and Hazel.

Cache placed with the kind permission of Leicestershire County Council Country Parks.
