TheVineys: A shame as this had so many fav points, but too expensive to keep replacing.

Geocache Description:

A possible cache and dash (if you are lucky, you can park right next to the cache). There is no need to leave the pavement to retrieve it. However, you could take a nice walk through the park, which is a lovely place and great for exercising kids and dogs.

A wheelchair-user can get to GZ without difficulty and many will be able to retrieve the cache unaided, but the position of the cache means that some might require assistance.

The cache is placed in The Ridgeway, Broadstone; it is at the entrance to Broadstone Rec., close to the cricket green and beautiful war memorial. However, during Victorian times this area would have looked very different. This is the site of the old Sharlands Brickworks, which was a major employer in the area. The steep banking around the perimeter of the cricket pitch and the sunken nature of the pitch itself are evidence of the excavation that has taken place. Above the cricket pitch is a war memorial sculpted by Gilbert Bayes RA.

Close to the cache, at number 14 Ridgeway, is a Victorian house that was once inhabited by the Sharland family and, closer to the Plainfield Farm entrance to the park (off Lower Blandford Road), there is a group of houses called Sharlands Close.

Broadstone Recreation Ground was designated a Field in Trust in 2012.
