According to legend, nestled deep in what has now become the Bear Swamp Natural Area in Howell, was a thriving land known as Fuzzlandia. The Fuzzlandians, mostly a clan of warriors, mystics, comedians, and short-order cooks, lived in relative obscurity, hidden from the outside world, thanks to the natural protection provided by the treacherous Islets of Langerhans, which no man, woman, nor geocaching beast dare cross.
Over the years, explorers and invaders from the Isle of Staten threatened the very existence and relative obscurity of the Fuzzlandians, forcing them to flee. Before doing so, King Fuzzy III (also known as King Fuzzy-Of-The-Bad-Hair, perennial full-contact chess champion and maker of fine cheeses) hid a small "box of stuff" within the cornerstone of one of his stately buildings, with the intention that someday noble explorers (i.e., "geocachers") should find his little "box of stuff", sign their name, and maybe trade other "stuff", all in the memory of what once was Fuzzlandia.
It is a small box of stuff you seek, room for only very small trinkets and possibly coins. Please search with respect & reverence, and please leave the area as you found it - lest you suffer the curse of King Fuzzy!
Total r/t hike from the trailhead is approximately 1.5 mi.; there is room for one vehicle to park at the trail head, otherwise please park at the given "parking" waypoint. PLEASE NOTE THE PROPERTY IMMEDIATELY TO THE LEFT OF YOUR APPROACH TO THE TRAIL HEAD IS PRIVATE PROPERTY AS POSTED; BEAR SWAMP IS HOWELL TOWNSHIP PROPERTY. TAKE NOTE OF THE POSTED SIGNS AND BE RESPECTFUL OF THE AREA.
