Geocache Description:

Kayak only cache! This is the first cache of the "Monster Mash Trail" series that are scattered along the scenic Pocomoke River that begins in Snow Hill, MD. The Monster Mash Trail is compiled of various monsters from movies and "real" monsters. Local legend dictates that the Pocomoke Forest, which this river runs through, is extremely haunted and has a plethora of history and lore so we thought this type of theme would be perfect! This cache is a micro that may require an extraction tool for the log. You should approach this cache from the furthest side of ground zero for maximum stealth. Please BYOP! Happy Hunting!

About the monster:

The "Goatman" of Maryland is an urban legend of an axe-wielding half-man, half-goat creature that hails from Beltsville, MD but has been sighted roaming as far North as Ontario, Canada and as South as Florida. The Goatman is described as resembling that of the Ancient Greek Satyrs who were half-man from the torso up and their lower half was all goat, complete with hooves and tail. His characteristics also bear a striking resemblance to the demonic entity known as Baphomet, as well as several other goat-like entities from medieval Europe. It's said that Goatman is a malicious, genetic hybrid that is the result of a horrible laboratory accident conducted by a scientist named Stephen Fletcher who worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Laboratory in Beltsville. Apparently, the doctor confessed to creating the beast by splicing the DNA of a goat with his assistant, William Lottsford, but the experiment went terribly wrong and thus the Goatman was born. The first reported sighting of the Goatman was in 1957 where several eyewitnesses claimed they observed a hairy, horned creature in the areas of Forestville and Upper Marlboro in Prince George's County, Maryland. According to claims made by those witnesses, the Goatmans' preferred hiding places are caves, dilapidated structures, and abandoned buildings. Can you find the Goatman of Maryland? Or a better question might be, do you want to?
