The Lynnville Veterans Wall was a project of the Tecumseh Arrows of Northern Warrick County, a local civic group that also organizes the Lynnville Christmas Parade among other activities.
The dedication ceremony was attended by around 200 local residents and veterans, along with students from Lynnville Elementary School. Students from the school had written essays on veterans and Veterans Day, and nine of them were chosen to read their essays during the monument dedication.
Lynnville Elementary School students had been involved with the project for months, helping to raise money to buy bricks for 14 Civil War soldiers buried in cemeteries around Lynnville. Gene Raber, principal at Lynnville Elementary, was an early supporter of the entire project.
The memorial got support from several area residents and businesses. They pledged either funds or volunteer work. There are 349 veterans memorialized on the wall, which is far more than organizers had originally planned. The initial hope had been to get around 100 names. All veterans, not just those from Lynnville or Warrick County, were eligible for inclusion.
The wall is located next to a gazebo and flagpole put in place at the corner of Main and First streets several years ago. The addition of the veterans wall will help make the area into a pocket park.
