This cache has been placed in the Great Rivers Park. The Park is located along the Great River Road about 3 miles North of Alton and adjacent to the Sam Vadalabene Bike trail.
The Great Rivers Park has 11 acres, two on the river level and nine up on the bluffs. The site is where the Piasa Bird formerly was displayed. The nine acres on top of the bluffs are part of a conservation easement with The Olin Nature Preserve.
The Park is home to Hoffman Gardens a memorial to Lars Hoffman the first Mayor of Godfrey.
The Gardens is still under development but in place are numerous new trees and plants. Concrete walkways lead to a memorial stone which sits in the center of the Circle of Life. The Circle of Life represents the American Indian heritage of the region.
A kiosk will provide visitors with information about the site, its geology and history.
At night, landscape lighting illuminates the bluffs, accentuating the textured ridges at the surface and exposing rock formations dating back thousands of years. The lights turn on nightly and are off by 11 p.m.
The container is a Bison Tube.
