This cache is located where the old St. Louis/Ft. Scott Railroad once ran. In the early 1870’s the St. Louis/Ft. Scott Railroad started operations in the Midwest. In 1881 they laid rail through Clearwater, KS while constructing a line from Wichita to Conway Springs. In 1885 during a season of flooding the No. 3 locomotive was placed on the bridge that went over the Ninnescah River southwest of town in efforts to weigh down and save the bridge. Needless to say it didn’t work. When the floodwaters swept away the bridge it took the locomotive with it into the river. There are lots of ledgend regarding this locomotive and I hope to place another cache at the South Bridge, soon.
Cache was placed with property owners’ permission. Please respect fencing and NO TRESPASSING beyond fence. Be safe and do not park along side of road, as there is very little shoulder and a large ditch. Property owner gave permission to park in driveway just south of ground zero in area of red cattle gate, but please respect privacy of owner and do not go further down the driveway area.

If you do not plan to log and continue the journey for the cow Cachekinz in a timely manner, please do not take it! Remember to trade fairly, leave cache area EXACTLY as you found it. No need to make it easier for the next cacher.
