Geocache Description:

St. Martin

Die malerische Kapelle wird 1323 erstmals erwähnt. Der heutige Bau it polygonalem Chorabschluss, dem seitlichen Eingang und einem Glockenturm an der Talseite stammt aus dem 17. Jahrhundert. Die Inneneinrichtung wurde, bis auf den Altar, aus Sicherheitsgründen entfernt. Die Kapelle ist immer abgeschlossen und nur am 11. November, zum Fest des Hl. Martin geöffnet.
Situlenbronzebleche, Tonscherben und römisches Glas weisen auf eine frühe Besitznahme des Hügels hin.
Vor dem Bau der Schrägbahn mussten die Marmorblöcke mit Fuhrwerken vom Bruch über den gefährlichen Talweg, am St. Martinskirchlein vorbei, befördert werden. Die Fuhrleute erflehten von heiligen Marin seinen Schutz.

Ein Fuhrmann schrieb folgenden sinnigen Spruch:

"Heilger Martinus mein,
misch di nit ins Fuhrwerk drein,
weil wenn der Schrepfer bricht,
bischt döcht für nicht."

(Schrepfer = Bremse)

San Martino

La pittorsca chiesetta viene citata nel 1323, ma la costruzione odierna con abside poligonale, ingresso laterale ed un piccolo campanile sul lato verso valle, risale al XVII secolo. Il corredo sacro, eccetto l´altare é stato tolto per motivi di sicurezza. La chiesetta solitamente è chiusa tranne alla festa di San Martino all` 11. novembre.
Lamine di situle bronzee, framenti ceramici e vetri d´età romana rinviano ad una precoce antropizzazione.
Prima che fosse costruito l´impianto a rotaia i blocchi di marmo venivano fatti scendere nella val di Lasa per la carrareccia che passava davanti alla chiesetta. I conducenti imloravano San Martino per la sua protezione.

Un conducente scrisse questo motto significativo:

"Mio caro San Martino,
non immischiarti del mio lavoro,
perchè se il "Schrepfer" si spezza,
mi servi ben a poco"

(Schrepfer = freno)

The picturesque chapel is first mentioned in 1323. The present building with polygonal chancel, side entrance and a bell tower on the side of the valley dates from the 17th Century. Bronze plates of situlas, pottery and roman glass indicate an early occupation of the hill.
Before the construction of the funicular railway, the marble blocks were transported with carts through the dangerous valley trail, past the church of St. Martin. The teamsters implored the protection of St. Marin.
A teamster wrote the following thoughtful saying:
