Near these grounds founded by Emily Pruden in 1884 was a female finishing school.
At some point it was taken over by Rev Archie T. Linsay.
Rev Linsay ask the girls to decide on a name for there school.
They chose "Linwood Female College"
Lin in honor of Rev Linsay and wood for the beautiful wooded area thaat it was located in.
Thus the name "Linwood" it was later called Linwood college and ceased operation in 1921.
