Geocache Description:

I had several caches in my bag & it seems I forgot to put a pen in this one & have not had a chance to return yet so Please...
BYO pen!
Be warned: there is only the odd patch of mobile coverage out here, so come prepared with info printed out or preloaded to your GPS capable device!

Mimiwhangata is a true gem of the North and is a great place for walking & beach activities such as swimming, snorkelling, picnicking or just relaxing...oh, and caching!

With an early start, it is possible for super keen enduro-cachers to do all the caches at Mimiwhangata in a day, but you may want to take a more leisurely pace and spend at least a weekend if not longer. You may get here & decide you just don't want to leave!
Plan your trip by visiting the DOC website here--> Mimiwhangata

To find this cache, you will need to explore the northern part of the park; You may be starting from the campsite or the main carpark, so it is up to you how to get there, rockhopping & along the beach at lowtide or around the headland loop track...enjoy the views & exploring! It is well worth going up a bit further/higher to the trig; I just didn't place the cache up there due to concerns about safety/kid-friendliness as there are some steep drop-offs up there!
* July 2016* I've added some GPX tracks you can copy, if anyone would like further guidance --> Headland loop track
or --> Headland loop track 2

A Pirate Tale
Part 1
*Shipwrecked*
Arrrr! T'was a dark & stormy night! The ruthless cap'n ordered the scurvy-ridden crew to reduce all sail... alas, despite running bare-naked the mighty ship continued to careen down mountainous faces like a crazed banshee. Suddenly out of the pitch black night a rogue wave reared it's ugly head & knocked her down. Ever so slowly, creaking & groaning, the ship righted herself but the damage was done, her spars snapt like mere twigs. The cap'n ordered a change in bearing to run for the safety of a secret cove, the knowledge of which was extracted from a miserable captive by torture & threat of death. Ahh, but he was a hardy soul & did not reveal all! It has been rumoured the captive's love was a mermaid who lived in & guarded these magical waters... the entrance tightly guarded by uncharted rocks, no moon to steer by and on near approach an unusual magnetic anomaly arose, renedering the ships compass useless. Suddenly the ship gave a huge shudder. To the dismay of all (except perhaps the captive?) she was stuck on a rocky reef, sets of waves pummeling & pushing her higher, Higher & yet HIGHER aground....
