Luke didn't really enjoy his life on Tatooine much anymore. Sure, the dual sunsets were pretty, but life on a moisture farm wasn't too much fun. (Here on Earth, bored boys on the farm have to keep themselves amused by tipping cows. Luke had to resort to peeing into the collection tanks for the farm's vaporators, much to the chagrin of Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. They really couldn't blame him for it, though. After all, they knew how difficult it was to tip a Bantha.)
As Luke looked out at the sunsets, he couldn't help thinking there was something in store for him, something he had to go find- but it was like a Tusken Raider's head. It was under the surface and couldn't be seen. Granted, one didn't just go around willy-nilly unwrapping Tusken Raiders. They tend to be pretty mean and prone to fits of rage. There seemed to be no end to the vast day-after-day nothingness on the farm. (Though he did keep himself occupied wondering why he had a hairdo that wouldn't be invented until a time called the seventies, many years later, on a place called Earth- a place where boys on the farm actually had cows to tip.) Luke's hopelessness caused him to put his quest on hold- even as he cursed his father's name for the day he left home, saying he needed milk for his bowl of Space Crunch cereal, and never came back.....
Then one day the droids showed up. Storm troopers followed- and, well, you know the rest. Luke left the farm and its little dwellings under the surface of Tatooine. He destroyed a Death Star. He got to hang out with a little green guy in a swamp. He was finally re-united with his dad (who never did tell him the thing with the cereal wasn't really true). Luke never found what he was looking for...that thing lurking just beneath the surface. That said, he *did* go on to do great things. Getting his hand cut off kind of sucked, though....
