Geocache Description:

This is a must go cache for tourists!

The Golden Bauhinia Square (Chinese: 金紫荊廣場) is an open area in North Wan Chai, Hong Kong. The square was named after the giant statue of a golden Bauhinia blakeana at the centre of the area, situated outside the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, where the ceremonies for the handover of Hong Kong and the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region was held in July 1997. A flag-raising ceremony is held every day at 8:00am. It is considered a tourist attraction.

The sculpture, a gilded flower bauhinia, is 6 meters high. The major part is composed of a bauhinia on a base of red granite pillar on a pyramid. The sculpture is deemed an important symbol for the Hong Kong people after the handover.

Just next to the Golden Bauhinia Square, tourists can also visit the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC; Chinese: 香港會議展覽中心). HKCEC is one of the two major convention and exhibition venues in Hong Kong, along with AsiaWorld-Expo. Built along the Victoria Harbour, it is linked by covered walkways to nearby hotels and commercial buildings. The venue was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, in association with Wong & Ouyang (HK) Ltd. Larry Oltmanns led the design as the Design Partner with SOM.

You can also enjoy this excellent night view of our famous Victoria Harbour at GZ. Hope you will enjoy the cache :)

NOTICE: Many many many tourist muggles are around GZ, so STEALTH REQUIRED!!!
