Geocache Description:

The posted coordinates are for the Post Office. The cache is NOT in or next to the building. But, it's a good place to start to gather the necessary information. The cache will be within walking distance from the Post Office.

This cache series was originally developed by Maryland cacher MDSurveyor with the cache P.O. Box – Bel Air in April of 2008. I learned of it when foon imported the concept into part of my old stomping grounds with his cache P.O. Box - El Segundo, and with his kind permission, I am continuing the concept to include the first location here in Oklahoma!

  • Start at the Oklahoma City Post Office at the listed coords.
  • Solve the puzzle and determine the cache location.
  • You can see that not all the digits of the coordinates in the clues are consecutive, but you'll figure it out.
  • From here it should be a short walk to find the cache.

A simple puzzle, once you learn how to apply this set of three numbers for the cache: (Grid:Row:Column).

Grid:

When you enter the Post Office you will find multiple walls with Post Office boxes. A Grid refers to all of the boxes on any particular wall. Each wall of boxes is considered a separate Grid, and there is only one Grid per wall.

The Grid number is determined by the number of the P.O. Box in the upper right hand corner of the Grid. Find the P.O. Box number that matches the Grid number and you are standing in front of the Grid you need to use.

A Grid has rows of boxes that run from left to right and columns that run from top to bottom. The P.O. Boxes at the bottom of the grid are often bigger than the boxes at the top. The rows will normally line up across the entire grid, but the columns may not. There may be more columns on the top of the Grid and fewer columns along the bottom of the Grid.

Row:

Starting at the upper left corner of the Grid and counting from top to bottom, the top Row is 1, the next Row down is 2, and so on to the bottom of the Grid.

Column:

Counting from left to right in any particular Row, the leftmost box is Column 1, the next box from the left is Column 2, and so on to the right of the Grid. Warning: Row 1 will probably have more Columns than Row 9, so be sure to count across in the correct Row. (That is why you are given the Row number before the Column number.)

The final cache location is:

N ma° nk.bro, W sij° ed.gch

To determine the cache location, use the (Grid:Row:Column) format to find the letter values:

(G54701:R3:C9) = abcde

(G54361:R7:C13) = fghij

(G18101:R3:C5) = klmno

(G18481:R5:C22) = pqrst

The P.O. Box lobby is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
