Geocache Description:

There is plenty of room to park off the road here while you take in the view.

With the school and hall so close this bit of road can sometimes be quite busy.

You will need your own writing instrument.

It is NOT in or on the grey upright Telecom connection tube.

The domain area is leased and worked as part of a farming operation so keep out. There is absolutely no need to go over the fence into the paddock to retrieve this one.

This is another cache in what is intended to be a series of caches placed along or near Old Coach Road, the series being designed to take you for a drive along the sealed Old Coach Road which was part of the main route between Tauranga to Opotiki before the main road in its current location was put in.
The drive will take you on a meandering route from the main highway at  Paengaroa through farming and kiwifruit growing countryside, past four thriving country schools to where it rejoins the main road at Otamarakau - or the reverse.

The original concept for development in this area in the late 1800's called for a town at Maniatutu Road with the school site being about half way between there and here with the Domain being surveyed right here. Thanks to the foresight of the original settlers the authorities were convinced that a better school site would be on part of the domain area to the East of here which is where it has grown from a small one room school to what you see now, with the hall being located conveniently close with a new community centre opening as recently as 9 August 2013.

Although the domain area looks like farmland where you will more likely see cows and dogs than sporting activities, it is in fact a domain reserve (but no public access) which extends from here, round behind the school and down to the stream by which there are currently new plantings being undertaken.

The domain has been extremely well managed over the years by locals with income from the leasing of the land to successive neighbouring farmers allowing for first the fencing and clearing of the land through to enabling the hall to be developed and paid for, a model which must surely be the envy of other districts throughout New Zealand.
