Geocache Description:

You are looking for a cache that honors the many volunteers that over the years have served on the WGA Board of Directors. There is room in the cache for small swag items and trackables. You’ll need to bring your own pen. Pants recommended for the short bushwhack through the green stuff; reportedly there's poison ivy in some areas depending on the approach direction.

The WGA (Wisconsin Geocaching Association) is a group of fun-loving, outdoor-minded people dedicated to promoting geocaching within the state of Wisconsin.

The fourfold purposes of the WGA are to:
• Work as closely as possible with the Wisconsin DNR and other property management officials regarding geocaching in the state of Wisconsin.
• Provide an opportunity for geocachers from around the state to gather and socialize through their many events, programs, and their website.
• Promote the “Cache In Trash Out” and “Leave No Trace” programs to help in the maintenance of parks and trail systems.
• Educate geocachers about the responsible use of natural resources and educate geocachers and non-geocachers alike about the sport of geocaching.

A Bit of History
The first organized geocaching event in Wisconsin (predating the WGA) was the SE Wisconsin Geocachers Picnic and Hunt held August 26, 2001 at Pike Lake in SE Wisconsin’s Kettle Moraine State Forest. Shortly afterward the name “Wisconsin Geocaching Association” was chosen, which was more representative of the entire state. During the planning for events in 2002, the WGA web site was established as a resource for Wisconsin geocachers, and seven people agreed to serve on the WGA’s first board of directors.

In March of 2003 the founders of the WGA formalized the association by adopting bylaws and forming the first elected board. The bylaws call for a total of nine board members serving two-year terms. Each year, approximately half the board positions are up for election.

The board is responsible for overseeing the business, initiatives, events, promotions, and policies of the WGA. Since the board members are volunteers located throughout the state, meetings and discussions may be conducted via the internet, telephone, or other electronic means, with at least one meeting per year held face to face.

Membership
It’s easy to join the WGA, and membership is free. Just register on their website at http://www.wi-geocaching.com. The WGA website is one of the best resources for geocachers in Wisconsin. It is a great place to find and share information on any aspect of geocaching. Come share, ask questions, download resources, or just socialize in their online forums!

For us personally, we have benefitted from joining and participating in the WGA. It’s expanded our awareness of so many more aspects of the sport of geocaching as well as of Wisconsin, and has connected us to so many great people!

Help Spread The Word
If you are already a WGA member, why not help "spread the word" about the association to other Wisconsin geocachers you interact with. Also, please consider placing a WGA banner image and link to the WGA website on your own cache pages. It's easy! You can get the HTML code to copy and paste by visiting the Cache Banners Page.
