Geocache Description:

A cache dedicated to a nautical cardinal mark. You will need a boat or dinghy to get to the island, then need to swim or wade to get ashore in spite of sharp rocks, climb a rather steep hill mostly consisting of loose gravel and stones ... but then, there is the cache and a most beautiful view on turquoise waters and both, Turkish and Greek coast lines.

A cardinal mark is a sea mark (a buoy or other floating or fixed structure) used in maritime pilotage to indicate the position of a hazard and the direction of safe water.

On top of the island Alev Adası (Island of the Flame) sits a west cardinal mark, warning ships and boats of the shoals and various rocks to the east and the north of the island (there is a north cardinal buoy nearby as well). Several wrecks indicate that not all ships payed due attention to this nautical warning.

Please be careful and safe. Don't try this cache during bad weather conditions, nor at night. Don't try to swim there, as you most likely don't know about the currents. The responsibility is yours alone, so always play safe!

Maintenance for this cache is kindly provided by a local friend, so "Didn't find it" or "Needs maintenance" entries are very appreciated.
