Geocache Description:

You are looking for a small plastic container with room for some small swaps.  Please replace natural camo around the cache as much as possible to hide the cache from muggle eyes. smiley

This is the second in our series of book-themed caches. One of geokid’s favourite books is Roald Dahl’s ‘Matilda’.  Matilda is a young girl who spent her younger years reading her way through all the books in her local library. So, we thought it would be ideal to hide this cache near our own local library.

Here is the plot of ‘Matilda’ in geokid’s words:

Matilda was extraordinary.  She could speak fluently by the age of 1½ and had read everything in the house, including the cookbook by the age of four.surprise  Her family did not like reading so she had to take herself to the library in secret (her parents didn’t look after her well and left her by herself during the day). She had been pestering her parents for ages to let her go to school and when she was 6 ½ they finally listened. They sent her to a school with a very cruel and scary headmistress called Miss Trunchbull.sad  Because Matilda was such a smart child she was the top of the class in everything.cool She also discovered that she could move things with her mind and her eyes.surprise  She really liked her teacher Miss Honey. Matilda found out that Miss Trunchbull was Miss Honey’s aunt and had been cruel to Miss Honey all her life.  She also found out that Miss Trunchbull had killed Miss Honey’s father and stolen her house and all of her possessions and money.crying Matilda made a plan to scare Miss Trunchbull off by using the special power she had with her eyes and mind.  It worked and Miss Honey lived a happier life.  Matilda’s family had also decided to move to Spain because the police had found out that Matilda’s father had been selling shonky old cars for much more than they were worth.  She did not want to go to Spain so she asked her parents if she could stay with Miss Honey. They said yes. Matilda and Miss Honey lived a very happy life together.smiley

When placed, the cache contained the following Matilda-related swaps:

  • A small car (Matilda’s father was a used car salesman)
  • A rubber lemon (the cars Matilda’s father sold were lemons)
  • A red ribbon (a red ribbon fell out of Matilda’s hair when she was at Miss Trunchbull’s house stealing back Miss Honey’s childhood doll)
  • A yellow plaited scoubidou (Miss Trunchbull didn’t like little Amanda Thripp’s plaited pigtails so she took hold of Amanda by the pigtails, spun her around and around and threw her out of the school grounds)
  • A piece of chalk (Matilda used her powers to make a piece of chalk levitate and write on the blackboard to make Miss Trunchbull think the ghost of her dead brother was writing her a message)
