Visit the Whitecliffs boulders beside the Rangitikei River. These large round boulders, covered in moss and set in pretty native bush, are known as cannon ball concretions. This cache (a 200 ml sistema container) is located at the entrance gateway.
The Whitecliffs boulders can be visited at any time during daylight hours but allow for a walk of about 45 minutes each way across farmland. From SH1 turn on to Otara Road just north of Ohingaiti. After crossing the Rangitikei River bridge turn left into Peka Road and continue on this gravel road until you reach the signposted entrance gate to Whitecliffs boulders. The distance from SH1 to the gate is 10km. Park on the roadway near the entrance gate unless you have a 4WD vehicle. With a 4WD you can drive 600m further down the farm track and park by a small shed with a visitors' book and an honesty box. Here you are asked to pay $5 per head. From here you follow orange triangles and walk across a large, relatively flat paddock. Then continue down another terrace following a farm track to the edge of the Rangitikei River. Follow the path to the signpost at the entrance to the boulders.
Bring your camera, drinks and snacks. Boots or walking shoes are recommended as the farmland can be muddy. If necessary bring warm clothing and a raincoat as the upper paddocks are exposed to the weather. There is a flush toilet and hand basin at the boulder site, but the water is not suitable for drinking. This cache has been placed with permission of the farm owner. Please respect all signs, farm animals and the property.
