Joas Park Nature Preserve is one of the latest land acquisitions by the Chippewa County Land Conservancy. Dedicated in May of 2011 it is a 52 acre parcel that was generously donated by 97 year old Joe Joas for the purpose of keeping it wild for the study of nature and the enjoyment of the public. It's features include a pond with Misty Creek flowing into it, stately pines, hardwoods and some prairie/meadow. There are trails that have recently been developed that skirt the pond and follow Misty Creek for awhile and then pass through a small meadow. Follow this trail from the junction at the old rail bed to the caches in the area.
Getting to the Preserve can be a little tricky. As of Aug. 2011 the only access is along an abandoned railroad bed (future bike trail) near Casper Park. Please park at the listed coordinates (off road parking)and walk the abandoned railbed to the Preserve. Railbed was recently acquired by the state and signs along the bed clearly say that it is closed to all vehicular traffic and intended for foot traffic only. Entry point to the Joas Preserve is about .6 mile from parking.
